Mean Daily Surface Level Pressure, 500 hPa and 700 hPa Charts by Grosswetterlagen Index

Figures 10-2 show mean daily surface level pressure, 500 hPa and 700 hPa charts for each of the Grosswetterlagen atmospheric circulation patterns. The contours are drawn at increments of 2 hPa, in the case of surface level pressure charts, and in increments of 5m in the case of 500 hPa and 700 hPa height charts. Grosswetterlagen circulation patterns can be divided into three groups: Zonal (characterised by an Azores subtropical anticyclone), Mixed (Azores anticyclone displaced to the North or North-East towards 50oN) and Meridional (blocking high between 50 - 70oN).
